Pregnant with Liujiameanswomen pregnantWhat does it mean? Why is it called Liujia? There have always been different opinions.
The origin of Liujia is “Heavenly Stem”,Ten days to dryThey are: A, B, C, D, Wu, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren, Gui;twelve earthly branchesThey are Zi, Chou, Yin, Mao, Chen, Si, Wu, Wei, Shen, You, Xu and Hai. The ten heavenly stems and the twelve earthly branches are combined in a certain way to form sixty basic units. These sixty units form a cycle, which repeats itself. Liujia is the 60 basic units composed of ten heavenly stems and twelve earthly branches. Among them, Jiazi, Jiayin, Jiachen, Jiawu, Jiashen and Jiaxu total 6 ten days. Each ten days is composed of 10 stems and branches, with Jia as the first , the abbreviation of Liujia is also called “Sixty Flower Armor”. The ancients said that a person can only spend a lifetime, that is, only 60 years.

The “Liu Jia Guan Fei Shu” in “Sui Shu Jing Ji Zhi III” says that when a woman is pregnant with a fetus, the six days of Jia Zi, Jiayin, Jiachen, Jiawu, Jiashen and Jiaxu are the days when God created all things. This day symbolizes the beginning of life and is also the day when a woman is most likely to become pregnant, so a woman’s pregnancy is called pregnant.
Folk sayings are more interesting. One is that when a baby is born, his face is full of wrinkles like an old man or an old lady. The old man and the old lady are both over sixty years old, so they are called Liujia. Common people also have a saying called “Hide five but not hide six”, that is, a pregnant woman will not be pregnant for five months, but will definitely be pregnant for six months, so it is also called “pregnant with Liujia”.
“Being pregnant with Liujia” is also said to be influenced by Taoist thought. Taoism has treated the heavenly stems and earthly branches as gods. The god Jiazi is named Qinggong and Yuande, the god Jiayin is named Mimingfossil, and the god Jiachen is named Yanchang. His name is Tongyuan, the god of Jiawu is named Ziqing, his name is Junren, the god of Jiashen is named Wengweilue, and the god of Jiaxu is named Linqi, whose name is empty. Liujia represents yang, and Taoism emphasizes yang, so it is generally just called Liujia.
In addition, it means blessing. For example, in ancient times, agricultural production required labor force. People wanted to have children to carry on the family line and inherit the family business. Liujia represents Yang in the heavenly stems and earthly branches. Yang represents men in the traditional theory of yin and yang and five elements. Therefore, pregnancy is called pregnant with Liujia. Blessing for the birth of a son means.
The ancients believed that a person’s life is a period of time. Of course, this was the understanding given that the average life span of ancient people was short. Therefore, being pregnant with Liujia is a blessing to the child and hopes that the child will grow up healthily and live a long life.
In ancient times, there was also a view that Liu Ding Liujia was a heavenly soldier and a powerful warrior from heaven. Therefore, saying that others or oneself are “pregnant” means wishing that the child will become an outstanding talent in the future, or even become a saint. This is also a beautiful wish.
