Legend has it that there once was a man from Youzhou namedMao Junhe traveled far away from home and went to a place in Qi State to study Taoism. He stayed there for twenty years. After Mao Jun succeeded in learning Taoism, he returned to his hometown and was greeted by his furious parents. When they met, they scolded him: “You unfilial thing! If you don’t serve us well, you run out and wander around, learning some ghost magic!” “While cursing, he would pick up something next to him and whip him. Mao Jun straightened his body and said to his angry parents: “My son is destined by God to attain Taoism. It is difficult to balance learning Taoism with filial piety to his parents. Although my son has traveled far away for a long time and cannot support his two elders, which makes his parents more troubled, but now his son Learning Taoism can make my whole family safe and my parents live longer. Now that I have gained Taoism, I can no longer suffer. If you whip me again, I’m afraid something big will happen!” When my father heard this, he was even more angry than before. He raised the crutch in his hand as if to hit Mao Jun. Unexpectedly, the crutch suddenly broke into dozens of pieces and moved toward him. It flew in all directions and directly penetrated the walls and beams of the home, making his father so frightened that he did not dare to do anything to him again. After the situation calmed down slightly, Mao Jun said, “This is what I just said was important. I was worried that I might inadvertently hurt someone.” His father was curious if he had the power to resurrect the dead after gaining enlightenment. Mao Jun replied: “It is impossible to resurrect.” Because the sins accumulated by the dead during their lifetime are heavy, only those who died due to misfortune, or those who lived a short life or died young have the possibility of resurrection.
When Mao Jun’s younger brother was about to become an official with an annual salary of two thousand dan, hundreds of villagers celebrated his farewell. Mao Jun was also present to witness his younger brother’s appointment. At that time, he said that although he did not hold an official position in the human world, he would obtain an official position in the fairy world, and he predicted a certain day when he would go to the fairy world to take up his post. The guests who heard about it at the time said that if this was true, they would definitely send him off. Mao Jun expressed his gratitude for their hospitality, but hoped that they would not spend money on gifts.
In a blink of an eye, time came to the day predicted by Mr. Mao. The promised guests arrived as promised and saw the banquet prepared by Mr. Mao. They set up a green cloth tent and spread a thick white felt on the ground. At the banquet, you can see all kinds of rare fruits and delicacies, and the fragrance is astounding to your nostrils, accompanied by wonderful music that can spread throughout the world and can be heard miles away. The banquet made all the thousands of guests feel happy. After a while, they saw the officials who were going to take Mao Jun to the immortal world. Civil officials appeared wearing red robes and white jade belts around their waists, with helmets and armor and flags flying. The military attachés armed with swords and guns tried to pick up Mao Jun with great force. After Mao Jun said goodbye to his parents and fellow villagers, he boarded a car with a feather umbrella cover. It is said that flags and flags appeared in front and behind to block the sun, and dragons, white tigers, celestial horses and various birds and beasts flew beside him, accompanied by five-color auspicious clouds. . After this group of people left, they disappeared without a trace for more than ten miles.
Since then, many people have built temples to worship Mao Gong. Mao Gong often appears in the sacred tent in the temple to talk to people. Some people will see Mao Gong appearing with men and horses, or turning into a white crane and flying. When someone is sick and comes to Maogong Temple, they will boil ten eggs and put them into the god’s tent. These eggs will be thrown out one by one after a while. After you take these eggs home and open them, if you see yellow in the eggs, it means that the disease will be cured. If you see mud in the eggs, it means that the disease will not be cured. People use this to predict good and bad luck.
